El Diviso; Mustefa Abakeno’s farm and neighboring smallholders

El Diviso; Mustefa Abakeno’s farm and neighboring smallholders

The story

The farm was founded by José Uribe Lasso in the late 1990s after he relocated from Nariño. It is now managed by the third generation of the family, with brothers Néstor and Adrián Lasso transitioning the estate from traditional production to a focus on specialty coffee and experimental processing.

Challenges

The farm's history is rooted in the family's displacement from Nariño due to regional violence, which prompted their move to Huila.

Innovations

The farm is renowned for its experimental approach, utilizing microbial fermentation, thermal shock, and the addition of specific yeast strains like Saccharomyces cerevisiae T58 to enhance flavor profiles.
