The story

El Placer is a fourth-generation coffee farm located in the Quindío department of Colombia. Owner Sebastián Ramírez, who initially felt reluctant to follow his family's path, took over the farm over twenty years ago to prevent it from being lost and subsequently developed a deep passion for coffee production.

Challenges

The farm has faced historical pressure regarding the viability of coffee farming, leading to a reduction in active production area since the 1980s. Additionally, the producer has navigated the need to balance traditional cultivation with modern, sustainable practices.

Innovations

Sebastián Ramírez has transformed the farm into a specialized processing facility that pioneers controlled anaerobic fermentations and experimental techniques, such as co-fermenting cherries with hops. The farm also emphasizes sustainability by avoiding herbicides and focusing on soil health.
