Hamasho

The story

Hamasho is a washing station located in the Bensa region of Sidama, Ethiopia, operated by the company Daye Bensa. The company was founded by brothers Asefa and Mulugeta Dukamo, who began with a single office and washing station to uplift local coffee farming families. They expanded their operations by establishing wet and dry mills at strategic locations to overcome a lack of local infrastructure for processing and marketing high-quality coffee.

Challenges

The region faced a significant lack of enabling infrastructure to process and market coffee, despite the natural environment being highly conducive to growing high-quality crops at high altitudes.

Innovations

The station is noted for its precision in processing, including extended fermentation techniques such as anaerobic natural processing that can last up to 100 or 192 hours.
