Wote Konga

The story

Wote Konga is a coffee-producing area located within the Yirgacheffe region of Ethiopia. The coffee is cultivated by a collective of smallholder farmers who manage garden-style plots in the Gedeo Zone. These farmers contribute their harvests to the Wote Cooperative for processing and distribution.

Challenges

Smallholder farmers in the region face logistical difficulties regarding the transportation of coffee cherries to collection sites. These infrastructure constraints often necessitate investments in local road construction and decentralized collection points to maintain quality and efficiency.

Innovations

The cooperative utilizes meticulous hand-sorting of cherries to ensure only ripe fruit is processed. They also employ traditional African drying methods on raised beds to preserve the clarity and nuanced flavor profiles of the beans.
