Alejo Castro Kahle represents the fifth generation of a coffee-producing lineage that traces its roots back to the 19th century. The family history is defined by the convergence of two pioneering coffee entrepreneurs: the Castro-Jiménez family in Costa Rica and the Kahle family in Mexico. Today, Alejo continues this legacy at Volcán Azul, a farm situated on the fertile volcanic slopes of the Poás Volcano in Costa Rica’s Central Valley, at altitudes ranging from 1,400 to 1,900 meters above sea level.

Volcán Azul is distinguished by its immense botanical diversity. Unlike many farms that focus on a single cultivar, Alejo manages an expansive collection of over 27 different coffee varieties. This includes staples like Caturra and Catuai, as well as highly sought-after specialty varieties such as Gesha, SL28, Mokka, Villa Sarchi, Sarchimor, Obata, San Isidro, and Venecia. More than half of the farm's production utilizes specialized processing methods, including anaerobic naturals and meticulous washed processes designed to highlight clarity and purity.
