The company’s history is intrinsically linked to the legacy of Adinew’s grandmother, Muluemebet Emiru, who was Africa’s first female pilot. Following World War II, she was gifted land by Emperor Haile-Selassie, where she began coffee farming in Harar. This family tradition was interrupted during the Derg regime when the land was nationalized, but Adinew sought to reclaim and expand upon this heritage by founding METAD in 2011 to restore the family’s agricultural influence.

METAD operates primarily in the SNNPR Region’s Gedeo Zone and the Oromia Region’s Guji Zone, areas globally recognized for their distinct coffee profiles. The company manages its own plantations and processing facilities, applying rigorous quality control protocols that span the entire production cycle, from seedling nurseries and planting to crop maintenance and final harvesting.
