The story

The Adorsi washing station was established in 2001 and became part of the Testi Coffee operations in 2018. Testi Coffee is a family-owned company founded by Faysel A. Yonis that manages multiple washing stations across Ethiopia. The station serves approximately 800 smallholder farmers in the Aricha kebele of the Yirgacheffe woreda.

Challenges

The station manages high volumes of coffee from hundreds of independent outgrowers, requiring significant logistical coordination during the harvest season. Maintaining consistent quality across diverse smallholder contributions remains a primary operational focus.

Innovations

The station utilizes the Premium Cherry Selection (PCS) program, which incentivizes farmers to deliver only the ripest cherries through price premiums. They also employ controlled fermentation techniques and drying on raised beds, sometimes using shade netting to ensure even development.
