What brands does JAB own?
JAB Holding Company, the Luxembourg-based investment firm behind the Reimann family fortune, is the largest private owner of big coffee. It controls Keurig Dr Pepper (roughly a 70% stake, spanning Keurig, Green Mountain Coffee Roasters and The Original Donut Shop), built and backs JDE Peet's (Peet's Coffee, Jacobs, L'OR, Douwe Egberts, Kenco, Moccona, Pilão, OldTown and Super), and owns café chains including Caribou Coffee and Espresso House, alongside stakes in Pret A Manger and Panera Bread. In 2025 Keurig Dr Pepper agreed to buy JDE Peet's for about $18 billion and split into two companies — meaning most of JAB's coffee empire is consolidating into one planned 'Global Coffee Co.'
WHO owns the most coffee brands? Follow the money and one name keeps appearing: JAB Holding Company, the private investment firm of the Reimann family. JAB spent the 2010s quietly assembling the world's biggest coffee portfolio. It acquired Keurig Green Mountain (the U.S. single-serve giant) in 2015–2016, took Mondelez's grocery coffee business and merged it with Peet's to create Jacobs Douwe Egberts, then combined JDE with Peet's again in 2019 to form JDE Peet's. Along the way it bought café chains such as Caribou Coffee, Espresso House in Scandinavia and Baresso, and took major positions in Pret A Manger and Panera Bread.
The 2025 deal rewrote the map. Keurig Dr Pepper — in which JAB's affiliate Acorn Holdings holds roughly 70% — agreed to acquire JDE Peet's in an $18 billion transaction, with about 96% of shares tendered. KDP will then separate into two listed companies: a refreshment-beverage business ('Beverage Co.') and what it calls the world's largest pure-play coffee company ('Global Coffee Co.', around $16 billion in annual sales), combining Keurig, Green Mountain and The Original Donut Shop with JDE Peet's brands like Peet's, L'OR, Jacobs, Douwe Egberts, Kenco, Moccona, Pilão, OldTown and Super.
WHAT does this mean for your cup? Scale cuts both ways. Consolidation gives these companies enormous buying power and marketing reach, but it also concentrates ownership of everyday coffee in fewer hands — a dynamic specialty roasters and farmer advocates watch closely, since JAB-scale buyers set prices across the market. JAB also owns luxury and food brands far beyond coffee (Calvin Klein, Dior stakes through its history, Bally, Pret, Panera), so 'what JAB owns' changes as it buys and sells; the coffee core, though, now runs through a single planned coffee giant. For contrast, most of the coffees this publication reviews come from farms, cooperatives and independent roasters operating entirely outside that system.
