Essentially a fine-mesh metal filter, it sits directly on the surface of your coffee bed inside the portafilter. By acting as a buffer between the machine's shower screen and the coffee, it helps diffuse the pressurized water more evenly across the entire surface of the puck.

One of the primary benefits of using a puck screen is the mitigation of channeling—the phenomenon where water finds a path of least resistance through the coffee, leading to uneven extraction and sour or bitter notes.
