96B Liberica Project

The story

96B began working with Vietnamese Liberica in 2016 before the variety gained widespread global attention. In 2022, the company launched a dedicated Liberica project in the Huong Phung commune of Quang Tri province to scale production and improve quality. The project collaborates with local farming families to harvest from century-old trees.

Challenges

Arabica coffee grown in the region is often considered low quality due to lower elevations, prompting the project to focus on Liberica to provide better economic advantages for farmers.

Innovations

The project utilizes experimental processing techniques such as long-duration anaerobic fermentation in PE bags and multi-phase drying to create unique flavor profiles. They also focus on scaling the production of rare species like Liberica and Excelsea to redefine the perception of Vietnamese coffee.
