The story

Altieri Specialty Coffee was founded in 2005 by Eugene Altieri, an Italian-American entrepreneur who moved to Panama in 1973. He originally acquired two farms in Boquete without prior experience in the coffee industry or knowledge of their potential for specialty production. Today, the family business is managed by his children, who continue to expand the brand and legacy.

Challenges

The farm operates in the challenging terrain of the eastern slopes of Volcán Barú, requiring careful management of high-altitude conditions and proximity to protected cloud forests.

Innovations

The farm collaborates with partners like Lost Origin Coffee Lab to experiment with advanced processing techniques, including beer-brewing methods, yeast inoculation, and the use of hops to stabilize fermentation pH levels.
