Fazenda Santa Lúcia

The story

Hélcio began producing coffee at 15 on his mother's farm and took responsibility for Santa Lúcia in 1976 after marrying Glycia Pereira Carneiro, daughter of then-owners José Isidro Pereira and Nazareth Dias Pereira.

Challenges

The farm balances coffee production with other agricultural uses across a large estate; the cited sources do not publish lot-specific agronomic challenges.

Innovations

Santa Lúcia uses safra zero, an alternate-side pruning system: half the coffee area rests after pruning while the productive half yields approximately 80–90 bags per hectare. The farm also reuses dry-milling parchment as organic fertilizer where possible.
