The story

The Gakuyu-ini Coffee Factory was established in 1982 within Kirinyaga County. It operates under the Thirikwa Farmers’ Cooperative Society, which serves as the central hub for over 1,000 active smallholder producers in the surrounding communities.

Challenges

Farmers face the inherent difficulties of managing small plots, with the average farm size being approximately 250 trees, while navigating the demands of maintaining high-quality standards for export.

Innovations

The cooperative emphasizes eco-conscious processing methods and provides ongoing technical guidance to farmers through field visits and training programs to improve agronomic practices.
