Kamwangi Factory — processing site, not a farm
Editorial illustration · not a verified farm photograph
This is a research profile, not an independently conducted farm visit. Producer and coffee relationships are shown only when the records agree. Check the research sources below for supporting evidence.
The story
The factory was established in the early 1980s, with sources citing 1975, 1982, or 1983 as the founding year. It operates under the New Ngariama Farmers’ Cooperative Society, which was re-registered in 1997 following the liquidation of the original Ngariama society. The facility has since grown to serve thousands of smallholder farmers in the Gichugu division.
Challenges
The factory faces pressures from declining national coffee yields and the need to manage environmental impacts, such as wastewater disposal, in a region where many other stations struggle with underutilization.
Innovations
The facility utilizes a rigorous manual cherry-sorting process and ceramic-tiled fermentation tanks to ensure consistency. It also implements environmental measures like wastewater soak pits and promotes sustainable farming through intercropping and tree-planting initiatives.
Farm profile visuals
Profile visuals may include editorial illustrations, not documentary photographs of this farm.

Published coffees linked to this farm
For blends, a farm may be named for one documented component without growing the entire coffee. These catalog relationships do not independently verify every lot, harvest or producer. See individual coffee profiles for traceability evidence.
