Kiawamururu Factory

The story

Kiawamururu Factory is a coffee washing station located in the Nyeri County of Kenya. It operates under the Njimbi CBO and serves approximately 600 registered smallholder members who collectively farm about 182 hectares of land.

The factory operates in a region where coffee production faces pressures from price instability and land-use changes, common to the broader Kenyan coffee sector.

Innovations

The factory utilizes traditional Kenyan processing techniques, including depulping, fermentation for approximately 24 hours, density sorting in channels, overnight soaking, and drying on raised beds.
