Kotowa (Las Brujas)

The story

Kotowa was established in 1913 by Canadian immigrant Alexander Duncan Macintyre, who named the estate after the Ngäbe-Buglé word for mountains. The farm has remained in the family for four generations, with current stewards Ricardo Koyner and his daughter Victoria managing the operations. The estate has grown from its founding in the El Salto region to encompass multiple farms across the Boquete highlands.

Challenges

The coffee industry in the Chiriquí region has faced significant trials and tribulations over the decades, making the path for producers difficult.

Innovations

The farm utilizes regenerative agricultural practices, including the protection of virgin forests and the planting of hundreds of fruit trees. They also employ specialized processing techniques such as custom fermentation tanks for anaerobic and carbonic maceration, alongside spring-water processing and low-temperature drying.
