Mamuto

The story

Mamuto was established as a family-run farm by the late Walter Mathagu and his wife Abishag, who combined their names to create the farm's title. Walter was a pioneer of quality coffee production in Kenya, and following his passing in 2021, the farm has been managed by his sons, Peter, Jason, and Patrick Mathagu. The farm has maintained a long-standing relationship with George Howell Coffee, which has been purchasing their harvests since 2006.

Challenges

The farm has faced ongoing difficulties related to shifting weather patterns, which have historically challenged their production. Despite these environmental pressures, the management has consistently maintained high quality standards.

Innovations

The farm utilizes plastic coverings over drying beds to protect beans from unpredictable rainfall, ensuring consistent quality during the drying process. They are recognized for producing coffee that serves as an international reference point for specific flavor profiles in the region.
