Volcán Azul

The story

Volcán Azul is a family-run estate in Costa Rica's West Valley with coffee trading roots stretching back 200 years. It is currently managed by fifth-generation producer Alejo Castro Kahle, who continues his family's long-standing agricultural legacy on the slopes of the Poás Volcano.

Challenges

The farm operates across multiple microclimates on the slopes of the Poás Volcano, requiring careful management of diverse environmental conditions to ensure consistent quality.

Innovations

The farm utilizes a modern mill and production facility, with over 50% of production dedicated to unique processing methods like anaerobic fermentation. They also maintain a focus on sustainability, including the management of Gesha plantations without the use of herbicides.
