Willem Boot is a pioneer in specialty coffee and the founder of Boot Coffee, while David Pohl is a coffee consultant and former director of coffee at Equator Coffees. Kelly Hartmann serves as the farm manager for Finca Sophia, overseeing the daily operations and productivity of the estate. Together, they lead the management and stewardship of Finca Sophia, a high-elevation farm in Panama dedicated to producing rare coffee.

Finca Sophia was founded in 2008 near Nueva Suiza, Panama, as an experimental project to test the limits of coffee cultivation at extreme altitudes. The land, which had a history of deforestation and livestock grazing, was purchased and redeveloped by a team of individuals from the United States and Panama. The farm is now recognized for its high-altitude production, with plots reaching over 2,100 meters above sea level.
