Elixr Coffee was founded in 2010 by Evan Inatome, who was inspired by his experiences with coffee culture while living in Indonesia. Upon returning to the United States, Inatome moved to Philadelphia, where he partnered with his brother-in-law, former Philadelphia Eagles offensive tackle Winston Justice, to establish the brand. The company began as a single coffee shop on 15th Street in Center City, Philadelphia, with the initial goal of creating a space that fostered community through high-end coffee service.

In 2011, the business expanded its operations to include an in-house roasting program. This transition allowed the company to exert greater control over its supply chain, shifting its focus toward sourcing unique, single-origin beans from specific regions and dedicated farms. The company’s sourcing philosophy emphasizes the procurement of high-quality microlots, which are then processed using a lighter roast profile intended to highlight the inherent flavor characteristics of the coffee.

Over the past decade, Elixr has grown from a local Philadelphia shop into a multi-city operation. The company has expanded its footprint to include multiple locations across Philadelphia, as well as sites in State College, Pennsylvania, and Nashville, Tennessee. Additionally, the brand has established a presence in the travel sector, including a location at the Philadelphia International Airport, while maintaining a robust wholesale business that supplies coffee to various accounts throughout the Atlantic Northeast and beyond.

Elixr is widely recognized within the specialty coffee industry for its active participation in national competitions. The company’s staff has achieved notable success, including a second-place finish at the 2018 United States Barista Championship and a third-place finish in 2019. Furthermore, the roasting team has secured multiple top-ten finishes at the U.S. Roasting Championship and a first-place win at the Coffee Champs Reno Roasters Qualifiers, underscoring their technical focus on roasting precision.

Beyond its competitive achievements, the company has been featured in various media outlets for its contributions to the specialty coffee landscape, including recognition as one of the "50 Best US Cafes" by Business Insider. The brand maintains a focus on transparency and quality, often highlighting specific processing methods—such as honey processing—and distinct flavor profiles in its offerings.
