Bumba Hill

The story

Bumba Hill is a coffee-growing region in the Kayanza province of Burundi. The coffee produced here is managed through the Long Miles Coffee Project, an initiative that works with remote farming communities to provide access to fair-trade washing stations. The project established the Ninga washing station in the area to support local farmers who previously faced significant logistical challenges in processing their harvests.

Challenges

Farmers in the Bumba Hill region have historically faced extreme isolation, requiring them to travel long distances to reach washing stations that offer fair prices and accurate weighing. The area also suffers from limited access to electricity and clean drinking water.

Innovations

The Long Miles Coffee Project established the Ninga washing station to provide local farmers with a nearby facility for processing cherries. This initiative focuses on farmer-centric production and improving infrastructure in remote regions of Burundi.
