Busanze washing station

The story

Busanze Washing Station was established in 2018 by the IMPEXCOR coffee company. It operates in the Nyaruguru district of Southern Rwanda, serving local smallholder farmers who deliver their coffee cherries to the facility for processing.

Challenges

The primary technical challenge for washing stations in this region is managing the potato taste defect, which is linked to the antestia bug and requires meticulous sorting and insect control.

Innovations

The station utilizes minimal intervention processing techniques, specifically for their natural-processed lots, to highlight the unique terroir of the Nyaruguru region.
