The story

Caserio Teogal is not a coffee farm in the traditional sense, but rather the location of a milling facility operated by Transcafe. This facility serves as a processing hub for coffee produced by various smallholder farmers in the surrounding municipalities of San Pedro Necta and La Libertad. The mill plays a central role in the post-harvest preparation of coffee grown in the Huehuetenango region.

The region of Huehuetenango is characterized by rugged, mountainous terrain that can make agricultural logistics and production difficult.

Innovations

The facility utilizes 'guardiolas,' which are specialized, patented mechanical coffee dryers used to finish the drying process after initial sun-drying on patios.
