Coopedota

The story

Coopedota was founded in 1960 by a group of 96 coffee producers in Santa María de Dota, Costa Rica. It has grown into a large cooperative with over 800 active members who focus on the economic and social development of the Los Santos highlands region.

Challenges

The cooperative has focused on mitigating environmental impacts, specifically by reducing water consumption, eliminating river discharges, and lowering carbon emissions associated with coffee production.

Innovations

Coopedota is recognized for operating the world's first certified carbon-neutral coffee mill, utilizing coffee husks as fuel and implementing an experimental drying wheel known as the RueDota to optimize patio space.
