The story

Petrona’s mother established the farm to create financial stability after Petrona’s father migrated from Guatemala. Petrona became the second generation to manage it and has focused on renewing plantings, increasing production, and improving family and community stability through direct specialty-coffee relationships.

Challenges

Published profiles differ on farm size and elevation: Verve reports 1.3 hectares and a 2,100-meter lot, while Gento reports 5.5 hectares at 1,800 meters and also refers to five acres. No single farm-wide point value is stored.

Innovations

For Verve’s documented release, cherries were depulped the day they were picked, fermented, washed, carefully sorted, and patio-dried for seven days.
