La Bandera

The story

La Bandera has been in the family of Diego Hidalgo for nearly 200 years, having been purchased by his great-great-grandfather. The farm began producing coffee in 1965 when Diego's father took ownership and joined the Coopedota cooperative. Diego Hidalgo later returned to the farm after spending time in the United States to manage the estate and its micromill.

Challenges

The farm is situated on a steep mountainous landscape, which presents inherent difficulties for cultivation and harvest.

Innovations

Diego Hidalgo and his siblings have expanded the farm and established a nursery featuring a diverse range of specialty coffee varietals. The farm also utilizes a micromill to maintain control over processing and drying techniques.
