La Lomita is a family-run farm currently managed by third-generation coffee farmer Eulises Guzman. The farm transitioned toward a focus on specialty coffee production around the 2012-2013 period, a time marked by significant volatility in global coffee commodity prices.

Challenges

The farm has faced economic instability due to the commodity coffee market, where production costs occasionally exceeded market prices. Additionally, the farm manages the threat of leaf rust, which impacts coffee harvests in the region.

Innovations

The farm utilizes sustainable agricultural practices, including intercropping and shade-grown coffee to promote soil health. Furthermore, the farm maintains a significant portion of its land as a protected forest reserve.
