La Perla and Río Verde community lots

The story

The property was originally purchased by Ernesto Pérez Villarreal in 1976 but remained largely unplanted until 2021. The farm is currently managed by the family of Ernesto Pérez Orea, representing three generations of ownership. Following the establishment of a nursery in 2021, the farm quickly transitioned into a successful specialty coffee project.

Challenges

The farm operates in a mountainous region where success depends on managing specific microclimates, including cool temperatures and frequent fog that influence cherry maturation.

Innovations

La Perla serves as a research hub for the region and utilizes sustainable practices to support both its own production and neighboring farmers. The project balances coffee cultivation with the preservation of protected forest land.
