Musumba

The story

Musumba is a site located in the Muramvya province of Burundi. It is managed in connection with the Bukeye washing station, which was the first washing station established by the Long Miles Coffee Project.

Challenges

Coffee production in Burundi faces significant hurdles including soil erosion caused by fluctuating rainfall and limited access to proper fertilization for maintaining healthy trees.

Innovations

The site utilizes meticulous management practices, including double fermentation—dry for 12 hours followed by 24 hours submerged in water—and drying on traditional African raised beds.
