Musumba Hill

The story

Musumba is a coffee-growing area located in the Muramvya province of Burundi. The coffee produced there is processed at the Bukeye washing station, which was the first facility established by the Long Miles Coffee Project in 2013.

Challenges

The region faces general environmental pressures such as deforestation, though the specific hills of Musumba are noted for their rich soils and protective banana tree canopies.

Innovations

The coffee undergoes a meticulous double fermentation process, consisting of 12 hours of dry fermentation followed by 24 hours of submerged fermentation, before being dried on traditional African raised beds.
