Mutheka Farmers Cooperative Society
Editorial illustration ยท not a verified farm photograph
This is a research profile, not an independently conducted farm visit. Producer and coffee relationships are shown only when the records agree. Check the research sources below for supporting evidence.
The story
The cooperative was established in 2004 after separating from the Giant Tetu Coffee Growers Cooperative Society. It currently manages a network of factories and represents thousands of smallholder farmers who typically intercrop coffee with food staples.
Challenges
Farmers face economic pressures from coffee price fluctuations and the long wait times for payment, which occur only twice a year. To mitigate these issues, there is an ongoing focus on income diversification and training to reduce post-harvest losses.
Innovations
The cooperative utilizes meticulous cherry sorting processes and has implemented infrastructure such as the use of hydroelectric power from the Kagumo River at the Kigwandi factory to support operations.

Published coffees linked to this farm
For blends, a farm may be named for one documented component without growing the entire coffee. These catalog relationships do not independently verify every lot, harvest or producer. See individual coffee profiles for traceability evidence.
Research sources & verification
These source links were recorded for this farm profile. They document its research trail; a linked source is not, by itself, confirmation of every farm, producer, coffee lot or photo identity.
