Pegasing Washing Station

The story

The farm was established in 2006 when Hamdan moved his family to the Pegasing region of Sumatra to begin coffee cultivation. His son, Hendra Maulizar, joined the operation four years later, and together they transformed the site into a specialty washing station. Today, the project functions as a hub that collaborates with approximately 70 local smallholder farmers.

Challenges

The farm operates in a region traditionally dominated by conventional wet-hulled processing, making their focus on experimental specialty methods a significant departure from local norms.

Innovations

The station has pioneered experimental processing techniques in the area, including carbonic maceration, anaerobic fermentation, and thermal shock washing. They have also implemented infrastructure improvements such as gravity washing channels and polyethylene drying tunnels to enhance quality control.
