People's Farm

The story

The People's Farm is a collaborative project located near the village of Gihombo in the Nyamasheke district of Western Rwanda. It is operated by Furaha Umwizeye of Kivubelt Coffee, who works with local small-scale farmers to consolidate their coffee production.

Challenges

Farmers in the region face difficulties related to the remote nature of the area and the small scale of individual land holdings, which often necessitates the consolidation of crops to ensure quality and market access.

Innovations

The farm utilizes a consolidation model that facilitates quality separation and provides smallholder farmers with essential resources and support that would otherwise be inaccessible.
