Triunfo Verde

The story

Triunfo Verde is a cooperative located in the Chiapas region of Mexico, established in 2003 by a group of smallholder farmers. It was formed to help local producers gain better access to international markets and improve their livelihoods through collective organization. The cooperative focuses on organic production and sustainable agricultural practices within the buffer zone of the El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve.

Challenges

The cooperative faces significant difficulties due to the impact of coffee leaf rust, which has historically threatened yields in the region. Additionally, the remote and mountainous terrain of the Chiapas highlands complicates logistics and transportation for the farmers.

Innovations

Triunfo Verde has implemented rigorous organic certification programs and agroforestry techniques to protect the biodiversity of the surrounding biosphere reserve. They have also invested in centralized wet mills to standardize processing quality across their member farms.
