Alburez-Ortega Family
The Alburez-Ortega family are long-standing coffee producers based in the San Martín Jilotepeque municipality of the Acatenango region in Guatemala. They manage Finca La Merced and its sister farm, El Retiro, maintaining a multi-generational commitment to coffee cultivation.

Coffee production began on the estate in 1912 under the management of Carlos Ortega Alburez. The farm faced significant challenges following a major earthquake in 1976, which destroyed the main house and community church. Today, the family continues to operate the farm with a focus on high-quality specialty coffee production.
