Long Miles Project is a farmer-driven coffee production model founded by Ben and Kristy Carlson in Burundi. The organization focuses on increasing coffee quality and improving the livelihoods of smallholder farmers in the Kayanza region through direct relationships and transparent trade.

History

After moving to Burundi in 2011, the Carlsons initially intended to open a coffee shop but shifted their focus to production after realizing local farmers lacked access to fair markets. In 2013, they officially launched the Long Miles Coffee Project and constructed the Bukeye washing station. The project has since expanded its operations to include additional washing stations and has grown its reach into Kenya and Uganda.
