The producers surrounding Lintongnihuta are smallholder farmers located on the high plateaus near the southern shores of Lake Toba in North Sumatra. These farmers cultivate Arabica coffee on small plots, typically ranging from two to four hectares, and are recognized for producing high-quality, specialty-grade beans.
History
Coffee cultivation in the Lintongnihuta district has long been established on the volcanic andosol soils of the region's high plateaus. These farmers utilize traditional wet-hulling, or 'giling basah,' a processing technique characteristic of Sumatran coffee production. The region is widely recognized for its specific geographical identity and unique microclimate.
