The full tasting
The first sip
Leisurist opens exactly the way the bag tells you it will: easy. The body is smooth and round, the sweetness arrives immediately, and there is a gentle fruit note floating near the top of the cup like it is not even trying. The first sip feels like a porch swing tastes, if that makes any sense at all. Nothing sharp, nothing aggressive, just a warm, friendly cup that makes you slow down without asking you to pay attention.
What we tasted
The bag says medium roast, hint of fruit, smooth plus sweet, and the cup delivered on all three. Caramel carries the sweetness, a soft caramel that reads more like the top of a flan than burnt sugar. The fruit is exactly what the bag claims it is, a hint: a peach like softness that drifts in around the middle and keeps the sweetness from going flat. We tasted it as drip and as a pour over, and both were lovely, with the pour over giving the fruit a little more room to breathe. The finish is clean and lightly sweet, and it never turned heavy even as the cup cooled.
The story in the bag
The bag is charming and famously brief. Pablo's Coffee roasts in Denver, Colorado, the artwork on the front features a marshmallow shaped creature taking it breezy on a swing, and the back simply says taking it breezy has never been so easy. We love the confidence of a bag that trusts the coffee to speak for itself. What we cannot tell you is who grew it: no origins, no farm, no producer, no processing method, nothing about the blend or single origin question. It is a bag with a personality and a missing resume, and we marked all of those details as undisclosed rather than guess.
Who this is for
This is the coffee for people who want their morning to feel easy, full stop. It flatters every brewing style we tried, it is forgiving of imperfect technique, and it is interesting enough that the cup never got boring across a full week of drinking it. If you want an exotic fruit bomb or a farm level traceability story, look elsewhere. If you want the smoothest, sweetest possible answer to what am I drinking this morning, this is your bag. 4.9 stars, earned.
Leisurist shines as an easy pour over at a 1 to 16 ratio with a medium grind and water just off the boil, where the soft fruit note gets a little more room. It is just as good as an unceremonious drip pot, and it stays smooth with milk if that is how you drink it.
