From the producer

96B began in 2016 with Hana C.; Thai Dang joined in 2020. The company works with Vietnamese farming partners on rare species, processing experiments and education, and formalized its Liberica Project in 2023.

From the roaster

Rogue Wave describes this as its first Vietnamese Coffea liberica and a one-of-a-kind, adventurous cup.

Why this coffee is noteworthy

Almost everything Vietnam exports is Robusta - which makes a specialty Liberica from the Huong Phung commune, near the Laotian border, genuinely unusual. Liberica's huge beans and jackfruit-like aromatics split opinion violently; Rogue Wave calls it one-of-a-kind, and this anaerobic-natural lot is a fair introduction to coffee's third commercial species.

The honest process breakdown

WHAT DID THEY ACTUALLY
DO TO THIS COFFEE?

01
Community-grown Liberica

96B sourced the lot from old French-era Coffea liberica cultivars grown by Huong Phung Commune households. Crop to Cup reports traceability to five households; the project is not represented as one farm.

02
Anaerobic natural process

Rogue Wave identifies an anaerobic-natural process. The existing Anaerobic process record is linked, while the natural whole-cherry finish remains explicit in the processing text.

03
Exact current offer

Rogue Wave lists the 2026 release at CA$30 for 200 g and labels it sold out.

What was added?

Verified the 2026 harvest and corrected the farm and process relationships to match the exact release.

What wasn't added?

Project-wide lactic-fermentation and champagne-yeast experiments are not attributed to this exact lot. No individual household, named cultivar, fermentation duration, drying protocol or roast label is invented.

Why it matters

Liberica species character and anaerobic-natural processing can both shape the unusual tropical and spirit-like profile, but the missing protocol prevents a more specific causal claim.

What you might taste

Rogue Wave lists lemon, pear, orange, whiskey, jackfruit and stevia.

Coffee profile

In the database. Not tasted. Not scored.

This coffee is in our database because we can reliably document it — but we haven't tasted and scored it yet, and we never publish a score we haven't earned.

Outside reviews and internet discussion — is kept clearly separate from our own review. When we taste it, our full review appears here.

The internet pulse

What the internet is saying about this coffee

Research complete — no qualifying reviews yet

Our research pipeline scanned public reviews, videos, forums and discussions for this coffee (last pass 2026-10-31) and found no independent review of this exact release that meets our verification standards. When qualifying sources appear, they'll be published here.

What we found

Eight Ounce lists the exact coffee with no reviews; Beanwired, BeanHoard, Roastguide and Cherrybook are catalog or evidence-index pages. Cherrybook's CBI is not a cup score, and its social signal concerns Rogue Wave generally. Other roasters' 96B coffees differ by release or processing. No numeric or qualitative sentiment was imported.
