Founded in March 1995, the cooperative was originally known as CEPICAFE and began with a modest membership of 200 producers. Over the decades, it has evolved into a large-scale, second-level non-profit organization representing thousands of families across northern Peru, particularly in the Piuran mountains and the Rio Bigote valley.

The cooperative operates as a comprehensive support system for its members, who are primarily small-scale agriculturalists. Their efforts have led to a dramatic increase in export volumes, growing from 550 quintals of coffee in 1997 to tens of thousands of quintals in subsequent years.

Beyond coffee, Norandino has gained international recognition for its work with cacao, specifically the rare 'Piura Blanco' variety. In 2008, the cooperative launched a dedicated program to identify and preserve these unique white-bean cacao trees. By establishing a conservatory garden at La Quemazón and distributing seedlings to replace international clones, they have played a critical role in protecting the genetic diversity and organoleptic potential of this specific crop, attracting partnerships with high-end chocolate producers like Valrhona.

The cooperative’s impact extends to the social and economic well-being of its members. By facilitating access to financing—often in the form of anticipatory loans for harvest activities—Norandino helps farmers mitigate the financial risks associated with seasonal agriculture. Furthermore, the organization is involved in broader community development, including the promotion of artisanal crafts and the launch of educational initiatives, such as school cooperatives, to foster the next generation of agricultural leaders.
