Fazenda Rio Verde

Founded in 1887, Fazenda Rio Verde is the oldest estate within the Ipanema Agrícola group and serves as its flagship property. The farm’s origins are rooted in family history, having been gifted to Antonio Fachardo Junqueira and Gabriella Augusta upon their marriage. Over the generations, the estate has evolved from a traditional family farm into a modern, high-performance coffee operation that balances large-scale production with rigorous environmental stewardship and conservation of its surrounding forests and springs.

Located in the heart of the Mantiqueira de Minas mountains in Minas Gerais, the farm spans over 1,500 hectares. Its geography is defined by high-altitude plateaus that reach elevations between 905 and 1,360 meters above sea level. This unique topography, combined with volcanic clay soil, creates a distinct microclimate that allows for the cultivation of high-quality coffee varieties, including Yellow Bourbon, Yellow Catuai, Red Acaia, and the highly sought-after Geisha.

Ipanema Agrícola has invested heavily in the farm’s infrastructure, establishing a state-of-the-art mill and processing center. Between 2002 and 2011, the company conducted extensive research to map the farm's diverse terroirs, leading to precise agricultural decisions that have significantly boosted productivity and cup quality. The farm is renowned for its experimental approach to post-harvest processing. Beyond traditional natural and pulped-natural methods, the estate has successfully implemented advanced techniques, including anaerobic fermentation. These efforts have yielded remarkable results in international competitions; notably, in the 2023 Brazil Cup of Excellence, Fazenda Rio Verde secured the top spot in both the wet and experimental categories, with its Geisha coffee achieving a score of 92.15.
