Wilson Alba

Wilson Alba is a dedicated coffee producer operating in the Palestina municipality of Huila, Colombia. He manages the family estate, Sierra Morena, alongside his brother, Jose. The farm has deep roots in the Alba family, having been established by Wilson’s grandfather with an initial six hectares before being expanded by his father through the acquisition of neighboring plots. Today, the farm spans approximately eight hectares, with two hectares dedicated to the Pink Bourbon variety and the remainder planted with Tabi. The operation has continued to evolve, with Wilson’s five sons now actively involved in acquiring additional land and contributing to the farm's ongoing development.

Sierra Morena is situated at an elevation ranging from 1,600 to 1,800 meters above sea level, a high-altitude environment that, combined with the region's volcanic soil, provides ideal conditions for specialty coffee production. The farm is noted for its commitment to meticulous processing techniques. For his Pink Bourbon lots, Alba typically employs a washed process: cherries are hand-picked at peak ripeness, floated to ensure density, and de-pulped before undergoing a 24-hour dry fermentation. The coffee is then dried on raised beds for up to 30 days until it reaches a precise moisture content, often cited around 10.3%.

Wilson Alba has gained significant acclaim for his mastery of the Pink Bourbon variety, which is genetically identified as an Ethiopian landrace. His work has been instrumental in establishing the variety's reputation in southern Huila. The sensory profile of his coffee is frequently characterized by vibrant acidity and complex notes of wild berries, raspberry, hibiscus, limeade, and wildflower honey, which have made his harvests highly sought after by specialty roasters globally.

Beyond his consistent production, Alba has demonstrated a strong presence in the competitive coffee circuit. His coffees have been featured in prestigious platforms such as the Copa De Oro competition, where his lots have been recognized for their superior quality and distinct flavor profiles. This success has not only elevated the profile of Sierra Morena but has also contributed to the broader recognition of Palestina as a premier origin for high-quality Colombian coffee.
