Borbón de la Montaña
Borbón de la Montaña ('mountain bourbon') is a locally propagated cultivar found near Inzá, Cauca. Partners presents it cautiously as a possible useful mutation or selection of Bourbon; its genetic identity has not been established in the cited material.
Where did it come from?
Partners Coffee reports that an old mountaintop estate near San Vicente had long grown Bourbon. One tree performed unusually well despite cold, extreme elevation, so the producer propagated its seed; neighboring growers subsequently began planting the selection under the colloquial name borbón de la montaña.
What does it tend to taste like?
Lot-specific. Partners describes Vladimir Calambás's washed release as silky, floral and berry-led, with watermelon candy, strawberry, cherry and buttery caramel.
