Sarchimor

Sarchimor is a diverse family of coffee varieties developed primarily to provide resistance against coffee leaf rust. These hybrids are created by crossing the Villa Sarchi variety with the Timor hybrid, which carries genetic resistance from Coffea canephora. Because Sarchimor refers to a group of related lines rather than a single cultivar, individual selections like Marsellesa, Parainema, and IAPAR 59 can exhibit different agronomic traits. This variety is significant for its ability to maintain productivity in regions where disease pressure would otherwise threaten traditional Arabica crops.

Where did it come from?

The Sarchimor group originated from breeding programs that crossed the Villa Sarchi variety with the Timor hybrid, a natural Arabica-Robusta cross. Following initial field trials and development in the 1970s, various national research institutes selected and released specific lines adapted to their local environmental conditions.
