Bavyeyi

The story

Bavyeyi is a producer group based in the Ngozi Province of Burundi consisting of approximately 600 members. The group is primarily composed of and led by women. The name Bavyeyi translates to 'parents' in the Kirundi language, chosen to honor the hard work of coffee growers who cultivate the crop to fund their children's education.

Challenges

Naturally processed coffees in the Ngozi region can require an extended drying period of 45 to 60 days on raised beds.

Innovations

The group utilizes a gender-sensitive approach to development and farmer empowerment, facilitated through their partnership with the vertically-integrated exporter JNP Coffee.
