Bombe

The story

Bombe is a micro-region in the Bensa district of the Sidama region, where coffee cultivation is a multi-generational family tradition. Farmers typically grow coffee in small garden plots of 3-4 hectares located behind their homes, often intercropping with food staples like enset, yams, and maize. The region is served by various washing stations, such as the Bombe station managed by DWD and owned by Dukale Wakayo, a former volleyball player who transitioned into the coffee industry.

Farmers in the Bombe region face the logistical and agricultural demands of managing small-scale garden plots while relying on local washing stations to process their harvests.

Innovations

The region has seen the adoption of diverse processing techniques, including natural anaerobic and honey processing, alongside traditional washed and natural methods to enhance cup quality.
