The story

Finca Santa Elisa is a large estate located in the Acatenango region of Guatemala near San Pedro Yepocapa. The farm serves as a significant source of employment for the local community.

Challenges

The farm is situated in a precarious location near the highly active Fuego volcano, which frequently covers the coffee cherries in ash. In 2017, the estate faced significant production struggles, harvesting only 700 quintales of cherries.

Innovations

Following a period of low production, the farm underwent an extensive refurbishment and implemented a more innovative management style. These changes resulted in a dramatic increase in output to approximately 34,000 quintales of cherry.
