Hambela Alaka washing station

The story

The Hambela Alaka washing station is operated by METAD, a company founded by Aman Adinew in 2010 with coffee production beginning in 2013. The farm is located in the Hambela Wamenna woreda and is managed by the Adinew family, who also operate the site in the Alaka kebele.

Challenges

Coffee production in the region faces complexities related to maintaining quality control across intake, fermentation, and drying processes, as well as navigating the semi-forest farming model.

Innovations

The farm utilizes a semi-forest model that preserves native climax tree species and employs rigorous quality control at intake and during fermentation and drying on raised beds.
