Kubi

The story

Kubi is not a single farm but a specific area and group of producers in the Gedeb district of the Gedeo zone. The coffee is processed at washing stations operated by Neguesse Debela, who began his operations in Worka Chelbessa in 2017 and expanded to a second site in Danche in 2019.

Challenges

The Ethiopian coffee trade faces complexities regarding the traceability of single-variety lots, as most production consists of regional landrace blends.

Innovations

The washing stations utilize rigorous quality control measures, including floating cherries to remove defects, density separation for Grade 1 classification, and controlled 36-hour underwater fermentation.
