La Loma

The story

Finca La Loma in Antioquia was purchased by Alfonso Guerra in 2005 to expand his existing coffee business, which began with the neighboring Finca Las Mercedes in the 1960s. The farm is currently managed by fifth-generation producer Juan Carlos Guerra alongside his father, Eduardo Guerra. Another farm named La Loma, located in Huila, is operated by Rodrigo Sanchez Valencia and Claudia Samboni.

Challenges

Farms in the region face environmental pressures, such as the proximity to forest reserves, and the necessity of managing complex terrain and temperate climates to maintain coffee quality.

Innovations

The farm utilizes advanced processing techniques including anaerobic fermentation and mossto lactic methods, and maintains an on-site quality control laboratory for sample roasting and evaluation.
